Donor Policy

Helping Hands of Georgetown, Inc. (“Helping Hands”) is deeply grateful for every gift. This Donor Policy explains how donations are processed, used, and protected, and the commitments we make to you as a donor. Helping Hands is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit (EIN 81-2170786).

Our commitment to donors

We are committed to handling your gift responsibly and transparently. You can expect that your donation will be used to further our charitable mission, that your personal information will be kept private, and that you will be treated with respect and gratitude.

How donations are processed

Donations are accepted online through Givebutter, our secure third-party donation platform, as well as by check mailed to the address below. Online payment-card information is handled directly by Givebutter and its payment processors; Helping Hands does not store your card number.

Tax deductibility

Helping Hands is recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3). Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law (EIN 81-2170786). You will receive an acknowledgment for your gift; please keep it for your tax records. No goods or services are provided in exchange for a donation unless specifically stated at the time of the gift.

How donations are used

Gifts support our food-relief programs and the general operation of our mission, including meals, the mobile pantry, and related services for our neighbors in Georgetown. Unless you designate your gift for a specific purpose that we are able to accept, donations are applied where the need is greatest. We honor reasonable donor restrictions where we are able to fulfill them.

Recurring donations

If you set up a recurring (monthly) gift through Givebutter, you may change or cancel it at any time through your Givebutter confirmation or by contacting us for assistance.

Refunds

Donations are reviewed for refunds on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Board or Treasurer. If you believe a donation was made in error, was a duplicate, or was unauthorized, please contact us promptly at [email protected] and we will work with you to resolve it.

Donor privacy

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share our donor list or your personal information with other organizations for their own use. Information you provide when donating is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Acknowledgment and recognition

We acknowledge gifts in writing for your records. We may recognize donors in our materials and on our Site; if you prefer to give anonymously or to not be listed, simply let us know and we will honor your request.
